Your web site should be thought of as your sales force and give a great first impression. If it is obviously hosted by an overloaded web server that your visitor has to type in a big long winded address then it looks like you either can't afford your own web hosting or you are a complete amateur.

Either way' it's a big turn off and you would have to be insane to think you are even going to make one sale let alone hundreds!

These days you can find great web hosting with a domain name service for as little as $5 to $8.00 per month!

To be perfectly honest, if you can't invest a few dollars per month on your business then you can't be that serious?

No matter how good your product or service most visitors will be turned off by this deadly blunder. And while on this subject be sure to register your own domain name. These start as little as $1.99 for .co.uk names (most often they are free with a web hosting package) and $8.99 for a .com domain.

It costs buttons these days to set up professional looking sites and it's easy!


Take your business seriously or it will have failed before it's started.

Deadly Mistake #2. DESTROYING YOUR SITE WITH TOO MANY GRAPHICS.

Graphics and music have a great role to play on web sites and some are very clever.

The number 1 job of your website is to sell your products and services.

Anything that detracts from that should be completely avoided and I can't emphasise that enough.

Unless you are a designer selling graphics then anything that takes a long time to load is not going to help you sell anything.

The same goes for music clips and Java or anything else that might detract from your main purpose or crash your visitor's browser.

If you feel that graphics, jingles and music improve your site and its sales capability then take a look at any of the top 100 sites.

They are simple and load quickly because the main aim is to sell, not amaze friends and relations.

Take a look at Yahoo which is undeniably the most popular web site on the internet. When was the last time you saw fancy video introductions or heard music blaring out?

It's just not necessary!

Deadly Mistake #3. Wasting Valuable Time on Unproductive Activities.

Yep...This is huge and something that everybody on-line is guilty of!

As an internet or direct mail marketer your most valuable asset is your time. Because your time is a limited commodity that once spent can never be regained you need to learn to prioritize and stop wasting it doing stuff that isn't going to sell anything.

If techie things arn't your forte then there are plenty of people out there who will do it for a very reasonable fee. You need to stop wasting your time constantly looking at your in box or surfing the internet. Your number one priority should be marketing to sell. Anything else is fairly unproductive.

Try to set up as much of your business on auto pilot as you can.
If you're not a technical person then get somebody to do it for you. The key to success on line is in spending your time engaged in marketing activities.

Try not to get too hung up on getting into the top ranking of Google, Bing or Yahoo. Despite what others may say it won't make you an overnight success but list building and selling to your customers through marketing will pay big dividends so spend your time on that.

Deadly Mistake #4. Poor Quality E-Mail Communication.

Your communication via e-mail with customers and prospects will make or break you. Most times you will never meet your prospects. Therefore you need to use e-mail correctly and to its full power.

Every day millions of e-mails are sent to prospects hoping to do business.

If you could take a snap shot of these e-mails most of them would look like they have been written by a child.

Typically they will contain spelling errors, be poorly formatted, have grammar problems and be difficult to read.

We all make mistakes but there is no excuse for this blunder.

Get yourself a good e-mail programme and spell-check your correspondence. You only get one chance to make an impression so don't blow it with silly blunders.

Deadly mistake #5. Failing to create an opt-in mailing list.

This one is a serious blunder. If you fail to build a customer list then you are simply leaving cash on the table.

If you get nothing else out of this article you need to really understand this one.

Prospects buy from people they know and trust. The only way your prospects are going to get to know you and see what you do is by regular contact via your mailing list.

You can keep them informed of new products and ideas but most importantly you will build trust and relationships and keep your name in front of your prospects.

I can't emphasize this enough. Create your prospect list by engaging in activities that drive traffic to your opt-in or mini series.
